Message From the Editor
Welcome to the Royal Special edition of Tokyo YY on the occasion of the Second Anniversary of HITS, the fabulous drag queen event staged every first Friday of the month at Shinjuku’s Club Code. Venus “Fly Trap” – this month’s cover girl – is the only model that has graced our cover twice (the first time she appeared in May, 1999). Perhaps it needs to be mentioned that “Venus is a Boy” – and if you asked me, I believe that our resident photographer got quite infatuated with her. Why else would he hang out at HITS every month and return with a dozen rolls of film?
Publishing a city magazine like Tokyo YY mostly means that we are in the discovery business. And the discovery of the month is Amrta Magenta, an ethnic rock/pop trio (one guitarist, one exotic dancer and Amrta). Busty Amrta likes to dress up like a princess out of Arabian Nights, but is also known as a regular at HITS where you can see her mingling dressed in drag queen garb.
Of course we can’t discover everything on our own. Thus we gladly follow any leads our readers are sending our way. Know of something worthwhile featuring on the pages of Tokyo YY? Give me a buzz.
